Intern Support Program

Your pharmacist career starts here

The Capital Chemist Intern Support Program is designed to support interns throughout their Intern Training Program (ITP). It is structured to complement the mandatory ITP, regardless of which ITP provider you are with and to assist interns to become “Practice-Ready” registered pharmacists by the end of their ITP.

The program includes face-to-face group sessions conducted by subject matter experts and community pharmacy leaders, discussion forums, progressive individual learning plans and mentorship in a genuinely supportive community.

Some of the workshop topics are:

  •          Communication - to enhance patient engagement and building trust.
  •          Health promotion – what they are, why we do them and what is required for my ITP assignment.
  •         Health services - Capital Chemist is recognised across Australia for our professional health services focus, and our goal is for all our pharmacists to operate at full scope of practice.
  •         Dispensary income and the PBS - this session, lead by Capital Chemist’s Chief Pharmacists, explains the dispensary, the PBS and financial side of dispensing.
  •          Dealing with conflict - Conflict, difficult customers and what to do when a patient says ‘no’. Workshop, discussions, and role-plays lead by a pharmacist who now lectures medical students.
  •          Schedule 3 and minor ailment products – how to provide “best practice” assistance to patients.
  •          Leadership vs management – discover the difference and your leadership strengths, as part of preparing for registration, supervising and leading others.
  •          Exam preparation – getting you ready for the Oral and Written exams.
