Should pregnant women avoid too much sun
It’s important for everyone to avoid too much sun and take
necessary precautions such as wearing sunscreen, covering up with clothing,
wearing a hat and seeking shade when outside for long periods of time.
However, for pregnant women the precautions are advised more
strongly to avoid overheating and dehydration, which could lead to unsafe
conditions for your growing baby/babies.
Pregnant women may also find that their skin is more sensitive
during pregnancy, which could lead to burning more easily than usual from the
sun’s harmful UV rays.
When outside in the sun just be sure to do all the right things as
follows:
- drink lots of water to hydrate your body. And if
you sweat a lot remember that you need to replace the minerals/salts too.
- wear a wide brimmed hat
- cover yourself in as much light and airy
clothing as possible
- wear a sunscreen that’s SPF50 ; consider a
sensitive skin version if you are prone to skin reactions
- set yourself up in a comfortable, shady area if
sitting for a long period of time.
If you feel as though you want a summery sheen, go for a fake tan
to give you that extra glow without damaging your skin!
