South Hobart is one of the newest additions to the Capital Chemist group, but there has been a pharmacy on the corner of Macquarie and Elboden streets since 1921.
The suburb itself is one of the oldest in Tasmania. Originally it was the location of the holiday homes of wealthier Hobart residents. Now, although it is only a stone’s throw to the centre of town, you would have to travel a long way out of the city to experience the feeling of community that exists in South Hobart.
Martin Quinn, a Burnie boy, has spent time travelling and working overseas and has worked at Capital’s flagship store at Kings Meadows since 1995.
Craig Cooper graduated from University of Tasmania and gained management experience in both Hobart and Canberra, eventually returning home with his young family to become the managing pharmacist at New Town Capital Chemist.
Scott Marshall moved to London straight out of university, but after 7 years overseas, found that there’s no place like home, moving back to Hobart in 2008 and meeting his future wife within 4 months. In December 2010, he joined Martin and Craig to begin a new chapter in the 95 year history of the South Hobart pharmacy.
